Press release - The March of diversity 2014

Star of Hope Romania Foundation organized on March the 21st, The March of diversity in order to mark the International Day of Down Syndrome. The purpose of this event was to make our activities visible and to make the community understand what Down syndrome is and how people with Down syndrome can have an active role at local level.

300 people participated at the March. We were honored to have among us Mr. Lennart Eriksson – Director of Star of Hope Sweden, Mr. Fred Thornes – Director of Star of Hope Norway and Mrs. Maine Olofsson – Director of Star of Hope Sweden. All participants wore colored socks as a mark of the distinction made by the X chromosome at persons with Down syndrome and everybody joined in a circle of unity and equality that children with disabilities wish for.

Star of Hope Romania organized Thursday (December 12 2013), the third edition of the “Star of Hope” Gala. Star of Hope Romania organized Thursday (December 12 2013), the third edition of the “Star of Hope” Gala. The event is part of the campaign “ Give! Change a destiny!”.

The Gala was moderated by Mrs. Maria Florea, TVR Iasi presenter, and by the master conductor of orchestra, Michael Beck.

The program included valuable artistic moments and auctions for art and decorative objects for fundraising. The artists on the stage were the quartet “Artes” and the quartet “The Vocals”. We were delighted to see the children from The National Opera Quire from Iasi, conducted by Raluca Zaharia, and the youngsters with disabilities from the association ”Cutezatorii” together with the children from the Academy “Show”, supervised by professor Ligia Delia Grozdan and professor Cosmina Paraschiv.




Press release – post event – book release “New face of destiny”

December 3 2013, the International Day for the people with disabilities, was the occasion for Star of Hope to organize a press conference for releasing the book “New face of destiny”, that includes the testimonies and experiences of the parents that have children with disabilities. The event is part of the project “Resources Center” for children with disabilities, financed by the city hall of Iasi and co-financed by Star of Hope Sweden, in partnership with TVR Iasi.

„I am glad to see that the parents had the courage to write down their thoughts and experiences. I want this book, which can be a model for the parents that have children with disabilities and for other parents, to be sold in many copies”, said Carmen Gherca, president of the association ANCAAR Iasi.




Press release – post event – The open doors day

The foundation “Star of Hope”, on October 31 2013, Friday, released the project “The resources centre for parents that have children and youngsters with disabilities”, financed by the city hall of Iasi, according to Law 350/2005, regarding the non-refundable financial support, from public funds available for non-profit activities for general interest, between October and December 2013.

On this occasion the foundation “Star of Hope” inaugurated the playground from the Regional Centre for Rehabilitation “Star of Hope. The park was made with support from Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Protection and Elderly, through County Agency for Payments and Social Inspection Iasi, co-financed by Star of Hope Norway. The play therapy is important for children, especially for the children with disabilities. Through play the children learn to discover the world and to interact with the people around them.




One Single Voce for Disability

Foundation Star of Hope Romania and The Coalition “One Single Voce for Disability” organized Thursday, 21 March 2013, from 15.00h to 16.00 h, in Iasi, public march "One single voice for disability." The march took place on the route Iaşi Hall (Stefan cel Mare Blvd) - Palace - Garden Palas. The protesters, numbering 300, formed a circle of rights in front of City Hall Iaşi and at end of it at Palas Park.

Participated at the manifestation the members of the Coalition "One Single Voice for Disability", students, teachers, volunteers, parents and children with disabilities, representatives of local authorities and mass media. The main messages of the participants at the march were: "We want rights, not mercy!", “Access to education!", "Adapted curriculum!", "Disability, NOT Handicap!".



Star of Romania for Star of Hope

Star of Hope Romania wants to thank Mr. Traian Basescu, President of Romania, for the high distinction he has bestowed upon Mr. Eric Lennart Eriksson, President of Star of Hope International Sweden, by decorating him with the highest Order of Romania, the Star of Romania, as a knight. This high honour has been awarded to Mr. Lennart Eriksson for his special contribution, over a period of more than 20 years, to the field of child protection, especially of the child with disabilities. This contribution has consisted in human and material support, high class experts from Sweden. The total amount of the invested funds is more than 16 million euros.




“Gala of Gratitude”

“Gala of Gratitude”, a charitable event that was part of the regional campaign “Give to change a destiny!” organized by Star of Hope Romania Foundation, took place on December 4th 2012. The evening has been enlivened by the presence of more than 180 people, from the academic and political environment, but also representatives of officials, companies and NGOs from Moldova region. The special guests of the evening were His Excellency Anders Bengtcen- the Ambassador of Sweden in Bucharest and Mr. Eric Lennart Eriksson- President of Star of Hope International Sweden.

Having a distinguished note, the Gala of Gratitude was moderated by Mrs. Mihaela Gîrlea, Phd and professor at the Art University ”George Enescu” in Iasi. During the event, the guests have been witness to special moments offered by Quartet Artes, by the children from ANCAAR Association, by the young persons with Down syndrome from Renaşterea Speranţei Association and, last, but not least, to the special moment organized by the children with psychomotor disabilities from the „Cutezătorii” Association and by the children from Academia Show, coordinated by professor Ligia Delia Grozdan. The President of Star of Hope International Mr. Eric Lennart Eriksson, touched by the artistic moments performed by the children with special needs, declared himself to be proud of the activity Star of Hope Foundation has in Romania.




„Give to change a destiny!”

Part of the campaign „Give to change a destiny!” Star of Hope Romania has had the honor to receive the visit of His Excellency Anders Bengtcen- The Ambassador of Sweden in Romania and the visit of Mr. Eric Lennart Eriksson- President of Star of Hope International Sweden, an organization that has invested more than 500.000 euros for the building of the Regional Rehabilitation Center „Star of Hope”, inaugurated in Iasi in 2010.

After attending the “Gratitude Gala”, His Excellency Anders Bengtcen has visited the center opened by Star of Hope Romania, has discussed with the experts, has asked about the evolution of the children who attend the rehabilitation therapy activities and has been interested by the casuistry covered by the foundation.
